Utah Electrical Panel Installation

Electrical Panels and Meters

Upgrading an Electric Meter

An electric meter attaches to the outside of a residence or business and measures the amount of energy supplied to that location. The electric meter connects directly to live power lines. When replacing or fixing an electrical meter, it is important to contact an electrician. Replacing an old electric meter or an old fuse panel is not a do-it-yourself job. Call Any Hour Electric today and we will send out one of our licensed electricians to replace your old electric meter.

Always contact a skilled electrician to conduct any electric meter work:

  • All of the electricity running through your home comes directly from the power lines to the electric meter.
  • Electric meters are extremely dangerous.
  • It is illegal for anyone besides a licensed electrician to tamper with an electric meter or panel, fuse box or power lines. Any offense to this law is punishable by fine or imprisonment. We’ve even heard of people being electrocuted—imagine that!

Upgrades and Additions to Electrical Panel

The electrical service panel is usually located indoors and allows you to turn the power for the entire complex on and off. This is very useful for the fire department because if there is ever a fire on the premises, they can turn the power off to the house before squirting water on the fire—water and electricity don’t mix very well! The service panel distributes electrical current throughout the various circuits of the residence or business. Whether you are looking to upgrade the circuits inside your electrical panel or install additional circuits to finish or add-on to your home, Any Hour Electric has an electrician ready to serve you. It is also important that you contact a licensed electrician for all upgrades and additional installations within your electrical panel for these reasons:

  • Even when the main circuit breaker is turned off, the two larger wires that enter the electrical panel are still live and contain 240 volts of electricity.
  • All electricity and power that enters your home comes through the main circuit breaker in the electrical panel, making it extremely dangerous.
  • The electrical panel provides access to all of the individual circuit breakers, which distribute electrical current throughout the entire complex.

Signs that you might need to upgrade or replace your electrical panel:

  • Panel box is making a crackling sounds
  • Fuses blow regularly
  • Appliances are not running on full power
  • Lights flicker on and off
  • House needs more outlets than what are currently available
  • Homeowner’s insurance requires an upgrade
